The IMSO is the inter-governmental organisation whose primary purpose is the oversight of certain public satellite safety and security communication services provided by mobile satellite communications systems. It oversees the performance of all components and the availability of those systems that are recognised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for their use in Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) and other safety protocols.
