Bahamas Shipowners Association Industry Forum 19th October 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm « IMO TECHNICAL COOPERATION COMMITTEE (TC) – 72nd session IOPC FUNDS » Crewing in Crisis… Mk II – we’ve made progress, but there is still work to be done. The Bahamas Shipowners Association (BSA) aims to take up strategic positions and drive a progressive industry dialogue. Two years ago we held one of the first industry fora focused on the global effects of the coronavirus on our industry and especially on our crews. The Covid pandemic is still affecting shipping operations. Now we are facing parallel global crisis with the war in Ukraine, which is again impacting the shipping industry and our crews – with far reaching global impact on food and fuel prices and financial conditions. These are indeed unprecedented times. Nevertheless, we need to ask the question: Where are we with seafarer wellbeing initiatives, employment improvements, and progressive crewing strategies – and how well prepared can our industry be for the next ’black swan’?
