The meeting took place to review and propose amendments to the convention’s standards, ensuring they remain relevant to the evolving maritime industry. Its primary purpose was to facilitate collaboration between governments, employers, and seafarers to improve the working conditions of the seafaring community globally. Captain Oli Olsen, Deputy Director, and Captain Kapila Malawwethanthri, Technical and Compliance Officer, both from The BMA’s Seafarers and Manning Department, attended the meeting as representatives of The Bahamas. Their active participation and contributions to the committee proposals will improve the living and working conditions of Bahamian seafarers at sea as well as those of foreign seafarers working onboard Bahamian flagged ships once the new amendments are adopted.
