Jobeth Coleby-Davis, met with directors of the Bahamas Shipowners Association (BSA) during their visit to Nassau this week, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the Bahamas Ship Registry while prioritizing quality, customer service and sustainability. Key discussions focused on fleet growth, the adoption of technology to enhance service delivery, and the importance of dynamic regulations to maintain The Bahamas’ competitive edge. The BSA Directors reiterated their support for the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) and its initiatives to strengthen the registry’s global performance. The meeting also underscored the importance of interagency collaboration in helping shipowners meet international obligations efficiently. The BSA reaffirmed its commitment to maritime education, highlighting its support for cadet training through the Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps (BMCC) and LJM Maritime Academy. Environmental challenges and green initiatives were also discussed, including The Bahamas’ efforts in carbon credit opportunities through seagrass conservation and addressing recycling challenges. The BSA directors expressed encouragement for the country’s sustainability measures and pledged to continue working with the BMA on environmental best practices. As a token of appreciation, Minister Coleby-Davis was presented with a commemorative plaque from the BSA, recognizing her leadership and the government’s efforts to advance the maritime sector.
