Hurricane Dorian and the Islands of The Bahamas Category BMA News Date Posted 02 September 2019 Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Hurricane Dorian, which was upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane status, is the most powerful storm to hit the Islands of The Bahamas since records began. The hurricane made landfall in the Northwest Bahamas on the island of Abaco and is currently, slowly tracking over the island of Grand Bahama. There have been reports of some loss of life and significant damages on those islands and our thoughts, and prayers remain with all persons affected by this unprecedented weather condition. The hurricane remains dangerous with hurricane warning remaining in effect for New Providence where the Nassau office of The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) is located. This office will remain closed for the duration today Monday, 2nd September 2019.
