AMVER is operated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to promote safety of life and property at sea. Its mission is to provide Search and Rescue authorities on demand, as well as accurate information on the positions and characteristics of vessels near a reported distress. AMVER is a worldwide voluntary reporting system which benefits the entire industry. In order that maritime can show its appreciation of the vessels that participate in the scheme, the International Propeller Club, in association with the USCG, runs an annual awards ceremony. Vessels that have spent a minimum of 128 days on the AMVER plot in any calendar year are recognised with awards that are colour coded to demonstrate the number of consecutive years a vessel has been eligible for the award. The Minister of Shipping, the USA Ambassador, USCG Officers, the Chairman of the Greek Shipowners Union and more than 1500 guests were in attendance at the ceremony and dinner and a number of special rescue awards were received by BMA’s clients. Among them were Dorian LPG, Diana Shipping, Enterprises Shipping & Trading, Chartworld Maritime and Technomar Shipping. Regional Director, Dimitri Tsiftsis, attended the event together with clients, enjoying their recognition while receiving the honorary plaque from Costis J Frangoulis, President of the Board of Governors of the International Propeller Club of Port of Piraeus.
