BMA participation at Maritime Cyprus Conference 2023 Category BMA News Date Posted 23 October 2023 Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Joining more than 1200 representatives from the world of shipping at this year’s Maritime Cyprus, The BMA’s Managing Director and CEO, Capt Dwain Hutchinson, and BMA Regional Director, Dimitri Tsiftsis, made the most of the opportunity to meet up with industry stakeholders and clients to discuss critical issues facing the maritime sector. The opening reception, which took place on 8th October, was held in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who announced the winner of the ‘Cyprus Maritime Award 2023’, George J Prokopiou. Among the speakers at the Maritime Cyprus Conference were regulators including IMO Secretary-General, Kitack Lim, IMO Secretary General-designate, Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco, and representatives from the EU and EMSA, financiers, insurers, shipowners, ship managers, shipowners’ associations and industry groups. Themed “Shipping in Action – An Agenda for Change”, the event featured sessions on subjects ranging from sustainable shipping towards 2050, the shipowner’s perspective on the future of EU shipping, energy transition, the role of shipbuilding in an evolving shipping industry, exploring ship finance, maritime technology and an exploration of current developments and dynamics within the industry. While all attendees acknowledge the need for shipping to take action and adapt for the future, the overall mood of the conference was positive and optimistic, particularly in terms of maximising the benefits of digital transformation and making effective use of new developments that can assist the sector.
