BMA Hosts Posidonia Reception Category BMA News Date Posted 04 June 2024 Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) hosted a warm reception for the Greek shipping community at the Yacht Club of Greece to mark the start of Posidonia 2024. The Honourable JoBeth Coleby-Davis, The Bahamas Minister of Energy and Transport, leads the Bahamas’ delegation and was pleased to welcome Greek shipowners and other maritime stakeholders to event. During her remarks, the Minister recognised the establishment of The BMA’s office in Greece, exactly 10 years ago, during a previous Posidonia and expressed her gratitude to the Greek community for their continued trust in The Bahamas. This is demonstrated through the growth of its Greek fleet and the increasing demand for additional services from The BMA. Greece plays a vital role within the shipping community as the world’s largest ship owning country. Representing over 17 % of all ships registered with The Bahamas Maritime Authority, Greek shipowners are very important to The Bahamas flag and the team was pleased to have the opportunity to engage with them at our first event during Posidonia. In addition to the Minister, The Bahamas delegation is includes, from the BMA: Chairman Jacqueline M. Simmons; Deputy Chairman, Peter John Goulandris; Managing Director & CEO, Captain Dwain Hutchinson; Regional Director, Dimitri Tsiftsis; Deputy Director (Maritime Affairs), Captain Ghulam Hussain; Deputy Director (Seafarers & Manning), Captain Oli Olsen; Technical & Compliance Officer, Captain Frank McNulty; Marketing Manager, Leah Davis and Bahamas Assistant Port Controller, Lonna Bethel, along with other members of The BMA’s Greek and London office teams. The delegation was also joined by representatives from The Bahamas Financial Services Board and the Grand Bahama Shipyard, emphasising the collaborative approach taken by the country to showcasing our extended service offerings. The Posidonia Shipping Conference 2024 is being held in Athens, Greece from the 3rd to 7th June. The exhibition & conference, which is held every two years, serves as the platform for bringing various international shipping entities together from around the globe and attracts up to 40,000 attendees.
